The mission of the Bemidji Community Food Shelf is to provide emergency food to families or individuals who have short-term, emergency food needs. Service is provided to residents of Beltrami County after all other possible means have been exhausted to obtain food. As the New Year approaches and due to USDA guidelines the Bemidji Community Food Shelf has a change in policy regarding client visits. Beginning on January 1, 2011 clients will no longer be able to receive services more than one time during a calendar month. The Bemidji Food Shelf is a nonprofit (IRS Reg. 501c3) organization founded during the summer of 1982. Realizing that the need was greater than any one church could handle, a group of twelve churches joined hands. A board of directors with representatives from each of the churches was formed. In addition, individuals from each of the churches were asked to become contact people for their congregations to keep them informed of the needs and services of the food shelf, and to collection and deliver donations to the food shelf. The food shelf now has 18 member churches. Hours: 10:00am - 3:00pm Mon., Wed., Fri. 3rd Monday of every month until 5pm
