Founded in 1982 and incorporated in 1983 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is a regional food distribution and support system for more than 130 different direct service, non-profit agencies serving the needy, the ill, the elderly and children. Among clients who visit emergency food sites, 11% are over age 60. Children are the most vulnerable to hunger: 37% of emergency food recipients are children under age 18. Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley operates the local Food Bank serving the community of Mason Valley. Commodities are provided by the USDA and are the last Thursday of every other month.
