Englewood Helping Hand, Inc. maintains a large, well-stocked pantry on its premises. Food and personal supplies are immediately available for Englewood families and individuals in need. Applicants are given one-week supply during their initial visit along with referral to the local food stamp office for ongoing assistance. After that, applicants are eligible to reseive food and supplies weekly at Helping Hand until their first allotment of food stamps is available. At the same time, Helping Hand remains in close contact with the local food stamp agency in order to assist clients as they go through the system and to coordinate services. The Helping Hand food distribution services allows Englewood residents who may not have the money to purchase food while they wait for their food stamps receive food immediately. This also allows a family to use what limited funds they may have toward household bills rather than food.
