KAIR

KAIR is a non-profit organization seeking to serve those individuals and families in Marathon and the Florida Keys who have found themselves in crisis. Working in partnership with other agencies and organizations, every effort is made to return people to self-supporting, productive lives. KAIR has served the local community since 1998 and is funded through public and private grants, donations, and fund raisers. Located in the Community United Methodist Church in Marathon, it is a creation of the churches in Marathon seeking to serve on a non-sectarian level without expecting a religious response. KAIR is a USDA certified food pantry. KAIR offers "Meals to Go" - pre-made meals for the homeless and transients and bags of groceries are distributed for those who have cooking facilities. The pantry is open five days a week during office hours or by appointment. Every Monday fresh bread and other bakery items are donated by PUBLIX and food is purchased at Feeding South Florida Food Bank and delivered to KAIR. Food is also donated by the various food drives throughout the year such as the Postal Food Drive, the Boy Scouts Food Drive and other organizations' food drives. Food donations also come from churches, businesses, organizations and individuals. Currently KAIR is distributing over 12,000 pounds of food per month! This need more than doubled in the past year alone! KAIR provides Thanksgiving and Christmas Feast Baskets for over 300 families. These baskets contain enough food for a holiday meal for an entire family.
