St. James Community Food Locker

The mission of St. James Community Food Locker is to extend Christ's love in a tangible way by providing approximately 60 bags of food to those in need every Friday, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The bags include canned and dry food, fresh produce and bread. Financial support and food items are contributed by parishioners, but food donations are also received from So. Pasadena Middle School, Calvary Presbyterian Church, and other community organizations and individuals. Day-old bread items are donated by Vons and Pavilions supermarkets. Fresh produce is obtained from the South Pasadena Farmers' Market. Each Christmas season the Food Locker organizes a holiday "market." We set out tables in the parish hall with an array of unwrapped gifts (new or like-new), from which people who come for food can choose presents for their families. Volunteers on a weekly or occasional basis are always welcome, to pick up produce from farmers' market on Thursday evening, help assemble bags on Friday mornings or distribute them later in the afternoon.
