Description

The mission of the St. Luke Food Pantry is to secure and distribute donated and purchased food and other items to the needy residents in Lee County. We place a special emphasis on families with children, families in crisis and the elderly. Christ set the example of feeding the multitudes so that we could share in His Ministry of helping to end hunger in our community. The St. Luke Food Pantry is an organization responding to the gospel imperative: "In so far as you did it to one of the least of these, my brothers and sisters of Mine, you did it to Me". We know that at this point in time our help is only a band-aid to offer immediate help. As we grow and expand we hope to be able to offer other services that will help our clients find a better way of life. The best way to assess the effectiveness of the pantry is to look at our growth. The pantry was opened in 2000. The first month we served eight families. In the month of September, 2010 we served 613 families. In the past year we provided food to over 16,000 individuals. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of other families that need help. We depend on donations from all sources to help us continue to serve those in need. The appreciation shown by many of our clients always make us know that what we do is important and together with you we can make a difference.
