Description

More Georgians are living on the desperate side of the federal poverty line than at any time in recent history according to the Georgia Budget and Policy Institue. The number of poor full-time workers has increased by more than 20% since 2010. Georgia is now the sixth poorest state in the nation. Sweetwater Mission is committed to battling the effects of poverty in our community. In 2013 we responded to 13,072 food requests by giving 850,056 pounds of nutritious food and serving 17,486 meals to our neighbors. We supplied 100,333 items of clothing, and gave 790 students school essentials like new shoes and socks, school uniforms, backpacks and supplies. We stabilized 163 families in crisis by preventing eviction and maintaining household utility service. Food Pantry: Our food program provides a variety of nutritious foods for families including frozen meat and fresh produce. Neighbors may receive food every month for as long as they have a need. We also deliver food to senior citizens and disabled persons who live alone and have no transportation.
