The Peoples Pantry is a choice model food Pantry that originated in the immediate aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. This severe storm unearthed Ocean County's previously hidden struggle with food insecurity. Food insecurity, or lack of a consistent and stable source of food, effects over 79,000 residents of our county...but you probably wouldn't be able to tell. They're the single parents of four who can't afford to feed their children on a single income. They're your coworkers who are forced to live paycheck to paycheck. They're even your friends and family who are struggling in silence because they don't qualify for government assistance. One of our main goals is to break the stigma surrounding food insecurity and educate others about the true prevalence of the problem.

Nancy: I went on a Friday for the first time. It was about two weeks before or three weeks before Thanksgiving my name was taken for a Thanksgiving turkey and unfortunately turkey was never delivered nor a call made to me after giving my address and phone number thankfully I wasn't Counting are there donation for Thanksgiving dinner I had to go to a church and would stay donated to me a turkey and items to cook a decent dinner so I can't say I want to thank the people's Pantry for my nice Thanksgiving dinner why take my name and phone number and address

BONNEY J PARKER: I run a community garden that has been donating every year to People's Pantry in Toms River. We have donated over 10,000 pounds of organic vegetables in the past few years. We have begun growing for this year and I need to know how donations will be accepted when they are ready in a few weeks.
